The Vietnamese Embassy in Saudi Arabia, concurrently in Bahrain, played host to a special screening of the film “The Tailor” on May 15. The event was part of the 2024 FrancoFilm Festival, a celebration of French-speaking cinema organized by the French Embassy in collaboration with the Alliance Française in Bahrain. The FrancoFilm Festival showcases the diverse cinematic creations from four continents within the French-speaking world. This year’s festival featured films from Africa, America, Asia, and Europe, with partnerships from Canada, Cameroon, France, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Switzerland, and Vietnam. 2023-2025 cultural development programme given go-ahead

Under a decision recently signed by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, the programme is set to be implemented nationwide and in several countries that have long-term cultural relations with Vietnam. It will primarily focus on cultural heritage, grassroots-level culture, performing arts, fine arts, photography and exhibitions, cinematography, library, training, national culture; foreign culture, and cultural industry, among others. The scheme puts forward eight groups of tasks and solutions, including perfecting cultural policies, improving the operational efficiency of cultural institutions, and building a healthy cultural environment. It underscores the importance of developing a contingent of writers, artists, intellectuals, and human resources for cultural management, training, and scientific research; creating distinctive cultural products of Vietnam; as well as promoting Vietnamese culture to the world. Photographic images of Vietnamese women displayed in France

The exhibition themed “Femmes du Vietnam: Tradition et Modernities” (Vietnamese women: Tradition and Modernity) is being jointly organised by the France-Vietnam Friendship Association and the authorities of the Loire-Atlantique region in France. More than 60 artworks highlighting Vietnamese women’s beauty seen from their back, along with their costumes, working tools, and household utensils were photographed by Thiery Beyne during his past tours throughout Vietnam. Beyne began travelling in the 1980s, traversing several Asian countries, including India, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam. During his Vietnam tours, including a 7-year-stay, he has had a chance to travel from north to south, meet many different people, and showcase different perspectives about life in Vietnam through his work. Unique collection of 14th century Bat Trang ceramic artifacts on display

The distinctive collection of Bat Trang pottery from the 14th to 20th century is on display at the National Museum of History on International Museum Day (May 18). The exhibition “Bat Trang Ancient Pottery” is divided into four parts, including “History of Establishment”, “Bat Trang Pottery in the 14th Century”, “Bat Trang Pottery in the 15th to 18th Century”, and “Bat Trang Pottery in the 19th to 20th Century”. With a long history of imbuing the quintessence with unique national cultural values, Bat Trang pottery has been collected and researched for many periods. Through the exhibition, the National History Museum aims to introduce a rich collection of glazed ceramics with historical, cultural, and artistic value to the domestic and foreign public, thereby raising awareness of preserving and promoting national cultural and historical values. Vietnamese heritage painting competition launched

The opening ceremony of the painting competition entitled “Vietnamese Heritage in Fine Arts” was held on May 18, highlighting the importance of preserving cultural heritage and natural values. The lacquer painting titled “The Scenery of Thay Pagoda” by Pham Hau (1903- 1995) Participants in the contest have a chance to win a special prize worth VND100 million or nearly US$4,400, according to the Cultural Heritage Association of Vietnam. The contest offers 17 with a total value of VND960 million (US$40,500), including the US$4,400 grand prize. Belgian stilt artists enliven street crowds at central Vietnam festival

The activity is part of the Hue Traditional Craft Festival 2023, which opened in Thua Thien-Hue on the evening of April 28 and will last through Friday.
