Vietnam Launches Inaugural Triathlon Federation

Vietnam Triathlon Federation was inaugurated on Tuesday for the 2024-29 term with elections for leadership positions. Le Hong Minh, general director of Vietnamese tech unicorn VNG, was elected as the president of the federation.  Nguyen Thu Phuong, an officer at the Department of Physical Training and Sports under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, was appointed as the general secretary.  The federation also elected four vice-presidents and one standing member. On Tuesday, the congress outlined the objectives for Vietnamese triathlon during the 2024-29 period.  For the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, scheduled to be held in Thailand in 2025, the federation aims to secure gold medals in both the men’s and women’s duathlon events, which combine running and cycling. Vietnamese footballers suspended indefinitely for gambling

The VFF disciplinary committee has issued a national-match ban to five players for their misconduct during a game between Ba Ria-Vung Tau FC and SHB Da Nang FC on December 24, 2020. This match was a part of the Gold Star V. League 2, which is the second-highest tier in the Vietnam football league system, after the V.League 1. The players who have been banned are Tran Ky Anh, Nguyen Son Hai, Le Bang Gia Huy, Nguyen Quang Huy, and Pham Van Phong. Colonel Bui Van Thao, director of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Department of Public Security, stated that investigators filed a request for prosecution against the players for gambling, in accordance with Article 321 of the Criminal Code, in early February. The five players were granted bail during the investigation. In the preliminary investigation, it was found that the players placed bets on SHB Da Nang winning the game against their own club on several gambling websites.
