On September 2, 1945, tens of thousands of red flags bearing a yellow five-pointed star in the middle made by Tu Van villagers covered Ba Dinh Square, where President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence of Vietnam. Since then, millions of flags produced by the craftsmen of Tu Van village have been shipped to localities nationwide to mark important national celebrations.
