Planting the Seeds of Change: Cathay’s ‘1 Ticket, 1 Tree’ Initiative Grows Stronger in its Fourth Year with Cargo Contributions

From July 25 to 31, 2024, Cathay Pacific is launching a special initiative where they will plant one mangrove tree in Southeast Asia for every flight ticket purchased from Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Cambodia during this period. This includes tickets bought on their website, mobile app, or through corporate clients using Cathay’s agents. The ‘1 Ticket, 1 Tree’ program has been a growing success since its launch in 2021, with 30,000 mangrove trees already planted. This initiative has brought together 13 diverse partners, including corporations, non-profits, and local environmental groups, all working together to educate and empower communities. “Play from Hoi An to be Performed in Paris”

Truong Thi Ngoc Cam, Director of the city’s information and culture center, confirmed that the upcoming art performance program in Hoi An, Vietnam will showcase tourism promotion, local crafts, and traditional arts. The city’s art troupe will be playing “bài chòi,” a unique combination of a card game and theater performance. The troupe will also feature folk dances and musical performances. Notably, “bài chòi” has been recognized as a UNESCO world intangible cultural heritage and can be seen performed in Hoi An every weekend. The artists will also showcase various traditional dances and musical instruments from different ethnic groups, including the Chăm dance, saranai flute, Vietnamese two-choir fiddle, and Thai group’s Cheraw dance. The dominant colour is red, which is combined with white, yellow, and green patterns. The ethnic women often wear hats that feature beautiful tassels. The costume of Ha Nhi Hoa women is relatively intricate, consisting of a hat, a blouse, a waistband, and a brassiere. The blouse consists of two layers, with the shorter one being worn on the outside and a long main layer worn on the inside. The blouses are then embroidered with the unique motifs of the group, combining simple and complex patterns, such as chain embroidery, multiple-shaped embroidery, or traditional dash embroidery designs. Rhyming words play a significant role in epic narratives and in the worship prayers of the longevity, water, and new rice ceremonies among the Ede people. These rhymes are songs that encourage people to love their homeland, unite, and support each other. They also serve as metaphorical expressions of love. Singing rhyming words is a common practice in the daily life and cultural activities of the Ede. It can be found in various forms of folklore, fairy tales, prayers to gods, customs and traditions, riddles, storytelling, and singing genres such as “kôt” and “eirei”. Linh Nga Nie Kdam, a researcher of Central Highlands folklore, explains, “In the past, the Ede people used customary law to judge people’s sins. Ede customary law is comprised of 2,000 rhythmical sentences.
