The Art of Long Coc

Hình ảnh
Long Coc had always captivated me with its serene beauty, and I often found myself staring at photos of its lush tea hills and misty mountains. The rolling hills, with their serpentine silhouette, resembled a dragon, giving the place its name, Long Coc – Dragon Cave. The skies lit up with warm colors at dawn and dusk, complementing the deep green acres below. The Long Coc Tea Hills are a significant source of tea cultivation in Phu Tho province, being the fourth largest tea plantation in Vietnam. However, in recent years, this remote farmland has gained international recognition thanks to the stunning photographs captured by talented Vietnamese artists. In 2019, Nguyen Phuc Thanh received acclaim at the Sony World Photography Awards for his iconic shot of Long Coc’s horizon. This was followed by Bui Viet Duc’s silver prize at the Smile World Photography Awards in 2021 for his heavenly depiction of Long Coc at morning light. This list, known as the Positive Indigenisation List (PIL), outlines items that will henceforth only be procured from Indian industries, fostering self-reliance in defence production. This initiative is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and is supported by the SRIJAN PORTAL, launched in 2020, which facilitates the indigenisation process by connecting defence industries with Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and start-ups. The latest PIL, the fifth in the series, includes items such as Line Replacement Units, Systems, Sub-systems, Assemblies, and raw materials. The Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) will indigenise these items through various routes, including the ‘Make’ procedure and in-house development with industry partners, stimulating economic growth and reducing impo...

The restoration of the Bao An Binh Barrack relic was completed in July 2023. The barracks was meticulously crafted in the late 19th century by esteemed French architect Henri Vildieu. Renowned for his architectural prowess, Vildieu also spearheaded the construction of prominent structures in Hanoi during the French colonial era, including the Presidential Palace (1900-1906), Supreme Court, Hoa Lo Prison, and various others. The camp formerly served as the garrison for a force of 1,000 French blue-belted militiamen known as the provincial guards or garde indigene. These guards were responsible for maintaining internal order and security in Vietnam prior to August 19, 1945.
