The event celebrated Vietnam’s rich historical traditions and cultural values, shedding light on the significance of the King Le Thai To Memorial Site, intrinsically linked to the heritage of Thang Long – Hanoi.

Vietnamese historical records recall the early 15th century as a period of immense struggle, marked by the oppressive rule of the Ming Dynasty from China. Le Loi, fueled by noble ideals and patriotism, led a valiant resistance. He organized an army and waged a decade-long rebellion (1418-1428) that ultimately defeated the Ming invaders and secured the country’s independence.

On the 15th day of the fourth lunar month in 1428, Le Loi ascended the throne, adopting the royal title of Thuan Thien and renaming the country Dai Viet. His reign laid the foundation for a prosperous nation and shaped the future of generations to come.

The King Le Thai To Memorial Site and the Nam Huong Communal House, nestled on the picturesque shores of Hoan Kiem Lake, form a revered complex honoring King Le Thai To and other ancestors. The site was officially recognized as a national historical landmark in 1995.

The annual commemoration of King Le Thai To’s coronation not only pays tribute to the king’s legacy but also celebrates the cultural and historical wealth of Hanoi’s Old Quarter. It highlights the enduring significance of Ngoc Son Temple, Hoan Kiem Lake, and the vibrant creative culture of the surrounding pedestrian areas.
