3,000 people join ‘ao dai’ parade in Ho Chi Minh City

The parade was jointly held by the municipal Department of Tourism and the Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Union on the occasion of the 113th anniversary of International Women’s Day (March 8) and the 1,983rd anniversary of the Hai Ba Trung (Trung Sisters) Uprising.

The event was aimed at honoring the beauty of ‘ao dai’ in daily life.

In particular, leaders of the municipal authorities, celebrities, and residents passed through Nguyen Hue, Le Loi, Dong Khoi, and Le Thanh Ton Streets where symbolic architecture works of the city, such as the President Ho Chi Minh Monument, the headquarters of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, and the Municipal Theater, are located.

Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 H’Hen Nie, an ambassador of the ninth Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival, said she was happy to meet with so many women in ‘ao dai’ and march in the parade.

She told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that she wore an ‘ao dai’ that she had used in many charity activities. She wanted to spread the love of the long gown.

Tuyet Mai, Dinh Linh, and Dinh Nhat Minh, who are local artists, played the role of an ambassador of the Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival this year for the first time.

Minh said that ‘ao dai’ is a crucial costume of his family. He often wears it during festivals or performances at home or abroad.

Nguyen Tran Phuong Tran, chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Union, said that women’s unions at all levels in the city have raised more than VND37 billion (US$1.6 million) to help over 2,300 orphans.

On this occasion, the Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Union was awarded the third-class labor medal.

Around 3,000 people, including leaders of Ho Chi Minh City authorities, artists, and local residents, wearing ‘ao dai’ (Vietnamese traditional costume) participated in a parade themed ‘I Love Vietnamese Ao Dai’ in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, part of the ongoing ninth Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival.
