Teqball Tables: Vietnam’s Quy Nhon Beach Newest Attraction

Teqball: The Exciting Hybrid Sport

Teqball is an innovative and exciting hybrid sport that seamlessly combines elements of football, table tennis, and sepak takraw. This unique sport is played on a curved table, adding a challenging twist to traditional ball games. With its origins in Hungary, Teqball has now made its way to the beautiful coastal province of Binh Dinh, Vietnam, where it is captivating locals and visitors alike.

From June 6 to 9, Binh Dinh will host its first international Teqball tournament, welcoming 131 athletes from 53 countries and territories. In the lead-up to the event, authorities have installed Teqball tables on the local beach, inviting everyone to discover the thrill of this new sport. The curved table adds a fascinating dimension to the game, as players hit a football back and forth using any part of the body except the arms and hands.

Local residents are intrigued by the unique setup of Teqball. The rules are similar to table tennis, but the football and sepak takraw influences add a whole new layer of skill and strategy. This blend of sports creates a captivating experience that is drawing in young people from across the coastal city.

Nguyen Duy Tuan, a local from Quy Nhon, shared his enthusiasm for the sport: “The downward-sloping and knee-high table makes Teqball so interesting and exciting. I tried it and immediately felt a rush of adrenaline.” Teqball presents a challenging and unique proposition for players, requiring precise ball handling skills and a strategic understanding of where to strike the ball.

Tran Manh Hung, a 15-year-old resident, echoed these sentiments, expressing his love for the sport after watching it on TV. He highlighted the emphasis on ball control skills and techniques over physical strength, making it accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels. Additionally, the absence of physical contact in Teqball significantly reduces the risk of injury, making it a safe and enjoyable choice for players.

The creation of Teqball is credited to two Hungarians: former professional player Gabor Borsanyi and computer scientist Viktor Huszar. They envisioned a new version of table tennis played on a curved table, and thus, Teqball was born. Together with businessman Gyuri Gattyan, they set out to popularize the sport globally, and their efforts have seen Teqball tables pop up all over the world.
