The Bryde’s whale, a majestic creature named after Johan Bryde, earns its place among the “great whales,” alongside the blue whale and humpback whale. Bryde, a Norwegian-descendant and owner of a South African shipping company, established the first whaling stations in South Africa during the early 20th century.
The Bryde’s whale is a protected endangered marine species in Vietnam, where fishing or causing them harm is strictly prohibited.
The blue whale’s appearance near Mui Ganh-Hoai Hai beach is a rare and fortunate event, with local fishermen considering it a harbinger of good luck.
In August 2022, a mother and calf pair of Bryde’s whales were spotted off De Gi shore, 50km north of Quy Nhon city in Binh Dinh province, creating a beautiful and memorable spectacle.
Mui Ganh-Hoai Hai beach, located approximately 100 kilometers from the coastal city of Quy Nhon, recently witnessed a remarkable event as whales were seen swimming in its blue waters for the first time.
