Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed a dispatch on April 13, addressing the aftermath of two consecutive forest fires in Quang Ninh, a northern border province.
The dispatch was sent to various ministries, agencies, and provincial/municipal People’s Committees, including Agriculture, Environment, National Defense, Public Security, and Finance. It also reached the directors of Vietnam Television (VTV), Voice of Vietnam Radio (VOV), and the Vietnam News Agency (VNA).
According to the document, from the night of April 12 to the morning of April 13, two forest fires occurred in Ha Long city’s Dai Yen ward and Binh Lieu town, Binh Lieu district. Initial reports suggest that over 40 hectares of forest land were damaged, but the fires have mostly been brought under control and extinguished.
Deputy Prime Minister Ha, on behalf of the Prime Minister, commended the military, police, forest rangers, local militia, and affected communities for their swift coordination and tireless efforts in fire-fighting. He also acknowledged the challenges faced by households impacted by these blazes.
Given the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting’s warning of rising temperatures and the increased risk of forest fires, the Deputy PM urged relevant parties to proactively continue forest fire prevention and control measures as directed by the Prime Minister in Dispatch No. 25/CĐ-TTg dated March 22.
The Quang Ninh People’s Committee was instructed to promptly address the aftermath of these fires, investigate their causes, enforce strict penalties for intentional violations of forest fire prevention laws, and restore the affected forest areas.
People’s Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities were reminded of their responsibility to the Government and the Prime Minister for forest fire prevention and control in their respective areas. They are expected to proactively direct and implement relevant measures to mitigate future occurrences.
The Ministries of National Defense and Public Security are tasked with instructing local forces to review, update, and perfect coordination plans between the armed forces and local communities for effective forest fire management. They should also ensure the highest level of preparedness for fire-fighting efforts and be ready to mobilize necessary resources when requested by local authorities.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will take the lead in directing forecasting, warning, and organizing nationwide forest fire prevention and control activities.
Meanwhile, VTV, VOV, VNA, and other media outlets are requested to enhance communication efforts on forest protection and forest fire prevention. They play a crucial role in promptly disseminating information on forest fire warnings and forecasts to the public.
